In the Brooder
Hi all,
I got my first batch of chicks about 10 weeks ago. Was supposed to get 2 Easters, 2 Welsummers, and 2 Gold Laced Wyandottes.
One of the Wyandottes is definitely not a Gold Laced. Has black and white coloring, at first assumed it was a Silver Laced Wy...but am now wondering as the feather pattern seems to be inverted from what I have typically seen. Instead of white center and black trim on the feathers it's got black surrounded by white.
Also, been wondering if this chick is a roo. All signs seem to point in that direction, but I have heard Wyandottes are notoriously difficult to sex. Started showing a comb at about 5 or 6 weeks. Comb got kind of reddish at around 7 weeks, now it's gotten a little paler again once she/he turned 8 weeks....not sure if this was just due to molting or something else. Doesn't really have wattles yet at 10 weeks, but back tail feathers look a little rooster like, whisky while the other chicks all have well-defined tail feathers. Is definitely the more aggressive/roo-like of the bunch, but I'm still kinda hopeful that it's a faster developing hen. The Gold Laced doesn't have a comb or much for wattles yet, for comparison.
Last two pics are earlier shots of same chick at 8 weeks and 7 weeks.
Thanks in advance for any input!
