I have a blue chick whose mother, I know, was a blue bantam cochin. Possibilities for fathers were blue bantam cochin, black silkie, and silver-laced polish. This chick is looking solid blue so far. Four toes, dark legs, light skin, single comb (maybe modified), sparse feathers on toes, narrow build so far, no evidence of crest yet. She looks pretty different in body shape and foot feathering than the pure cochin chicks she's growing up with. She was solid blue at hatch, with no yellow on her chest like the blue cochin chicks.

So I've come to the conclusion that this chick's father was a silver-laced polish. I think what I'm seeing is that the chick will either be solid blue or solid black, based on the chicken calculator. Did I do it right? Will this chick stay solid blue, or will these juvenile feathers turn into something different? I'm really curious to see what she's going to look like when she matures.

Thanks!

I'll get a pic of her this afternoon. Her head is finer than the pure cochin chicks, but her nose doesn't look particularly polish-like.

Finally got a pic of the chick in question, and he's looking like a cockerel. He was 5 weeks old yesterday. I think I'm seeing a shadow of lacing on his chest feathers. I wonder if that will develop into anything. He's got a couple of crest feathers developing, but has been very slow to feather throughout. He's going to be beautiful!

The lacing looks like maybe the polish was the father to me. Most polish crosses I've seen though the offspring usually shows signs of a small crest anyway. But that one looks like maybe it came from a smaller chicken tough my guess would be the polish.
Pretty.

I'm sure it's from the polish. It has the same modified single comb as my other polish crosses have had. I see a small feather or two starting in the crest, but they're just barely growing. Its mama was a bantam cochin. It's definitely not a pure cochin, and its father was definitely not a silkie. So it's for sure part polish. I think the crest is just slow to develop because the feathers have been slow to come in throughout its body.

Got a picture of Sid tonight, named after Sid the Sloth from the Ice Age movies. He's 2.5 months old now. He's cute in a funny-looking sort of way. See the way the lacing is showing through the blue? It'll be fun to see how he looks when he's mature. He's also got a tiny beard and big wattles, and medium-sparse feathering on his feet. He's three weeks older than the standard chicks he's in with, and his bantam mama seems to have really affected his size. They're all passing him up.

Ignore the orange circle in the pic. That's my flashlight, because I was out in the teenager coop after dark. Also ignore the dirty litter! That's first on my list for cleaning jobs tomorrow. First Monday off in months!
