Silver Spangled Hamburgs

At one time we raised and exhibited the S/S Hamburg. It was difficult to get the real good show quality in my state, just not enough quality breeders for show birds. I really enjoyed them. They were stately and quite striking to the eye. We had some luck showing in the continental class, but no further. The only real concern was that some of the cockerels would have leg damageat the hip (almost like a dislocated hip). Be it from fighting other males or running from larger males. I did have some get this problem.

We have two SS Hamburg banty hens. They are cute, quiet, and friendly, but not particularly tame. They dislike being handled. They lay well in the spring and summer months.

They are quite flighty but I a beateful bird. In the Poultry Press Paul Hardly of Ga. sells chicks. I saw his birds at Columbus Ohio show a few years ago. and they were the best

I have 3 Silver Spangled Hamburg girls from last Spring's hatch. I handled them alot and they are smart, sweet and very tame. They follow me all over the yard when I'm out working. I am going to find a rooster for them soon.

m not into exhbiting at ll, but we do love these birds. Perky, beautiful, unimpressed by and totally uninterested in the pecking order, sort of above/outside all the shenanigans, and lay a lovely, small-med egg, nearly every single day. Just go about their busines, love to forage for plants and bugs, love kitchen scraps, so prob cheaper to keep than just about anybody else in our coop. Go get em!
