Hi, I'm in love with Icelandics as they tick all the boxes for me, based on my limited experience so far and what I've read:
So basically I'm wondering what other breeds I might also like, based on this? No particular reason, I'm not getting any more chickens for a long time (closed flock, suspected MG). I'm just curious.
- Reliably lay through winter
- Long laying life
- Excellent foragers
- A bit flighty, relatively predator savvy (moreso than a lot of breeds, though prob game breeds are best)
- Hardy in cold weather (I'm in Canada)
- Not bred to color standards so you can have a very diverse looking flock
- Small but not bantams (I hear the meat, while not bulky, is uniquely flavorful, though I've yet to find out... I'm just one person so one is enough meat for me)
