I picked up a free 1935 singer sewing machine just like the one in this pic:

got to get new cords,clean and oil it,revarnish the table,then get to sewing stuff.

Oh, the memories. I made all my business clothes on one similar, but electric, for about 25 years -- paid $25 (used) for it around 1963 -- also had one as a child, with treadle, that I learned to sew on. Great find!
 
bad news. The motor looks burned out.They dont make the motors,and the refirbished ones are 165.00.

Good news,they make a handcrank for it for $15.00,which means no xtra use of electricity.

I have my moms ,when she passed on i was lucky enough to get it,it was her first machine and almost all my clothes were sewn on it! Wonderful memories.My dad replaced the motor years ago,could you may be get the motor repaired?

We have one of those in pretty good condition. It operates on a foot treadle though. The local convent had a number of these that went up for auction a few years ago. They had been used continuously by the nuns over the years, and the drawers of the cabinet still contained the original manual as well as boxes of accessories and needles.
