Single Breed or Variety of Breeds?

Cochins are cold hardy...oh, but they have feathered legs. Sorry. Delawares are great, friendly birds, but they all follow one type. However, they're not a solid color, and the lovely neck and tail feather tips look SO regal in a group.

Yes, there are a lot of Sussez variations. I don't have any, yet.... Sounds like a good choice.

Although I would opt for Easter Eggers just for the great variety in bird AND egg colors!

I love my multi-colored, incredibly varied flock.

I suggest get a bunch of dual purpose to start with. You find what you like after about 1 year. If you get 1 breed, you end up wonder about other breed.

I would start out with a ton of different ones to start off. I had a whole slew of chickens before I really settled.
