would anybody know whether ideal, or cackle hatchery has the nicest brown leghorns?

You could go to a show in your area and try and find some. That would be your best bet. I have had good luck with Cackle and never used Ideal. But if you want something other than hatchery quality, go to a show and find a breeder.
