21 days ago my Buff went brood on 4 eggs. 7 days later she decided to add 7 more eggs to her nest. 1/2 way thru the incubation of the first 4 eggs she decided to abandon all those eggs and move to 5 new ones in a new nest box. She had already broken one of the old eggs. So, I moved the remaining 10 eggs into the incubator. 1 hatched today. 2 more should hatch tonight or tomorrow if they are going to. the other 7 are scheduled to hatch next week. No I haven't candled any of them. I have trouble candling brown and green eggs.

If the other 2 eggs don't hatch, will this lone baby be ok until the other 7 hatch next week? I've been holding and snuggling with her this evening but don't want to tire her out. Will she get lonely and die from lonliness?

Thank you for your advice.

She won't die of loneliness, but she will demand attention and she will most likely panic if she's by herself, so be prepared for that. I raised a single chick once that I haven't been able to find a friend for. We spent a lot of time with him and when we couldn't I tucked him under his feather duster "mom". It worked most of the time! Good luck with the remainder of the hatch and fingers crossed she will get a friend or 2 soon.

Thanks Sumi, for the advice.

I've had her on my lap, chest, shoulder, snuggling in my hair for a couple of hours today. She has also been on the laptop. (Maybe she's part cat!) LOL I had her on my shoulder earlier in the day and then put her back in the brooder. She seems to do ok. As I type this she is snuggled into my hair on my shoulder. It gives me great insite as to what chicks do under their mom. Her nails are sharp. Mommas have great patience, I believe.

3 more days and we will learn if she will have siblings.

This is the single baby that was born 2 days ago. She helps me with some typing I've been doing. Her marks are quite interesting. She has 4 black stripes down her back and a black stripe on her head. She is getting the "tuffs" on the side of her head like an Americauna but her legs are yellow.

She is doing great. 4 more eggs hatched a week later and they are all getting along great. Thanks.
