Climate is close to mine then. I would get her a friend or two like was suggested. If at all possible do the "see no touch" so as not to introduce disease or health issues to her. Even if you could look around at other owners and borrow a hen till spring. The hatcheries sell pullets in winter but they're expensive! I'd check FB or CL.first. I'm so sorry for your loss . Have you checked the rehoming site on here.? Their are a few Colo folks here.

I didn't know about the rehoming tab on this site, I will check it first & if no luck, The farm we are going to today also has a rehoming program... when available. Fingers crossed! one way or another, we are hopeful to come up with a hen to keep our Miss Dixie company.

Very good decision looking for another one I always feel awful when I see a chicken on their own, I also think your hen might have an easier integration with a new addition as someone mentioned above they 100% thrive better in a flock and will appreciate some company.

Yes! Here is our reply, at last!
We found a feed store with Rhode Island Red pullets and bought one to keep Dixie company. Unfortunately, they had clipped the beaks of all of them and they were all in one small pen - apparently meant for pen-life or egg farms. We named her 'Rhoda', she is learning to be a backyard chicken. She didn't even know to roost, the pen didn't have one. And now she is getting a bit wild, she hops a 3' fence like nothing so we need to fatten her up quickly or we'll have to clip her wing feathers. Dixie didn't accept her willingly, we had to set up a barrier to split the roost into two sides to reduce excessive pecking. But she is coming around now and is better behaved.

She’ll be fine with her soon, just take some time, so glad you managed to find some company for her. Good job
