Ok so is it normal for 5 week chicks to be scared of bugs? Last night a water bug made the mistake (or so I thought) and fell into my chicks pen! I’m thinking oh this is gonna be good! 🤣. Well the old saying ā€œlike a chicken on a June bugā€ did not apply to my babies! These little sissy chicks were jumping away and squeaking like little school girls! It was comical but in the same breath I’m thinking ā€œwaiting a minute your supposed to be bug killing machines! Let’s just say the bug made it out of the pen but met the fate of my flip flop! I sure hope their instincts kick in! South Carolina is no joke when it comes to bugs! šŸ˜. Just wanted to give a little humor to your Thursday morning! Have a good one all!!

Are they brooder raised? They don't have quite the same instincts as mama raised chicks. It took my brooder raised ones weeks to figure out bugs are food, AFTER they moved outside permanently

Yes, babies and young birds are leary of all food they have never seen or eaten before. Normally momma would be introducing the buggies!
