Caught my white leghorn pullet in the act today (or at least preparing for it). I have a wooden egg in the nestbox and she was so very careful to make sure she kept that wooden egg under her at all times. She would find it and roll it underneath her and then sit on it awhile. She did not lay her egg until I left the coop.

Never seen the pre-egg dance (ha). Do they always do that? I just kind of expected her to hop in there and ignore the other egg.

Yep, mine get all the golfballs and any eggs left by their sisters under them just so before they settle down to lay.
