Hii!~ sixbabies back again with a lovely little update to our first time with ducklings saga.

Ducky’s eye, feet, and back are fully healed. We got the antibiotic from the vet and just kept putting saline water in her eyes for 3 days until they could see her.

I love my girls so much!! They are all in my living room in a large kiddie pool with a grippy surface to keep up with bedding issues. Almost 4 weeks old now!

They really get large fast!! Thank you everyone for your suggestions and support last time. We have two baby gates made into one large fence that we also use to put them outside. It’s the second day that they are old enough to do outside visits that’s above 66 degrees f, which means it’s their second time outside!!

Working on building the duck house on days like today when it’s not rainy starting today. I have about 4 weeks left before they can go outside full time so wish me good weather luck!! <3

It rains here often and it’s well into 40s at night here. Our living room smells of shit and I have to transfer them to a big tub their old brooder was temporarily and they are getting pretty intense about jumping out of there. I’ve started letting them take a bath in the bathroom about 4-5/7 days a week to make them extra clean and because they really love it in there!!

And then I dry them off one by one with a warm towel and put them back once I’ve lugged the kiddie pool back inside the house after cleaning it all out with the hose nozzle on the jet setting.

Today I showed them all the mirror on the way out of the bath and got some different responses from them.

Their little personalities developing! It’s so funny to watch!

Trying to hold them more they really don’t like being picked up so much now. Every time they hit another big growth spurt (I swear feels like every day they get way bigger but there are noticeable days where I wake up in the morning and am shocked that they seemed to have almost doubled!) they decide they want to completely relearn their center of gravity and if they want me to support their feet under them or not. I do my best to be gentle but they are mostly pretty skittish. They like their space and they like their comfort, so it’s pretty upsetting to them for me to come in there and clean everything out haha.

They seem to be establishing some sort of casual pecking order. They have started making tiny “quack-like” sounds sometimes. Still a good amount of peepers too, especially when spooked.

Duck-Duck (the silver Appleyard) seems to be one of the boss ladies. She is always on top of the brood plate and every so often she lets others up there with her.
Duck (white layer) is the other boss lady, she spends a good amount of time sitting on the food pile. She is also the biggest.
Dukko (khaki Campbell) is also the smallest still. Very “runt”, doesn’t seem to ever get in much trouble with anyone.
Duckita (golden 300 hybrid) is an excellent jumper and swimmer. Has made some successful escape attempts when I move the baby gates to clean, which is frightening.

Ducky (buff) has also made a successful escape same way today so I am getting better at grabbing them quickly as they jump out. Only really an issue when I’m moving them to clean. Might start closing the gate after each duckling now!!

Duckily (Rouen) seems to not mind being picked up quite as much. Same with Dukko. I’ve caught Duckily and Duky sparring with their beaks recently. They don’t seem to be bullying each other or in danger of really messing each other up anymore, and they seem to have a similar level in the flock of status (above Dukko, but below Duck and Duck-duck, maybe a bit above Duckita), so I’m letting them sort that one out.

No real issues with my dog so far (they share a living room and he gets a lot of praise and affection for being so patient putting up with them taking up half his space for now and keeping him up making sound when he tried to nap) but my friend’s corgi visited and they freaked out a little bit.

They like my boyfriend the most because he is around them a lot too and only ever feeds them wormies (meal worms) as a treat and pets them.
They like me a good amount compared to strangers (my friends, family, friend’s corgi, neighbors) I’ve had come visit, but I have had to break up a few fights and pick them up a lot to keep their space clean and safe which they don’t like much.

If anyone has some tips for socialization I would love to know!

I use puppy pee pads and line the bottom of the pool and then sprinkle pine flakes on top of them and when they’re so soiled they’re easy to roll up and toss and replace with clean
Nice!! The vet told us to use paper towels for a bit while Ducky’s feet healed, but we were hardly able to keep up with the amount of trash that was producing TT^TT
