Six hens, eight eggs today?

How is this possible? We check for eggs multiple times per day because we had a couple broken open. I didn't check early this morning when I first let them out so idk if maybe one was from last night or early this morning. But altogether there were 8 eggs so far today and I only have 6 chickens. The shells were all hard. This is weird... Lol

Likely you missed a couple yesterday or the birds laid the eggs about roost time. We have this happen from time to time as eggs are not necessarily on a 24 hour schedule...

Yeah they are new layers. I've heard they can lay at random times at first.

Even our adults lay at odd times. Typically, a hen is on about a 26-27 hour laying cycle, but that varies widely, VERY widely...
