Hello! New here to BYC, and have been devouring all info. We have three adorable little 2 week old chicks -- a Golden Buff (sex link), Australorp and a Barnevelder named Peep, Mrs. O'Leary and Dixie. They haven't moved in just yet, but are spending a lot of recess time in the grass run.
We bought a coop from a local guy who builds them. Here's a photo -- note that you don't see part of the run, so it's a bit bigger than what you see.
The inside coop floor is about 3' x 3', not counting the external nesting boxes. There are three nesting boxes on this side, and an identical three on the other side. Seems like overkill for such a small coop. I was just going to leave them as is and let the chickens decide what they wanted to do, but I'm wondering if I should take out the dividers on one side and just open it up to more floor space.
Note that there's a clean-out door that will give the girls access to a 15' x 30' fenced area to range in... so I'm not terribly concerned that they'll be overcrowded inside.
Many thanks for any advice!
