I heard this weird sound coming from the brooder box this morning - and it was Mac! My young cockerel is only six weeks, but he's trying to crow. He tosses his head up, and lets out a loud

"CHIIIIRRRRRR-RRRRRRr-RRRRP!"

I tried to get a pic of him in action, but he was too quick!

What kind is he because I think I have a pullet that looks like him?

I have a five day old Ameraucana crow in the brooder. Yep, I said days. At first, I had no idea what the heck it was doing. It'd stretch out its neck, stand tall and say "buh-REEEEET". I told my DH to come see the silly thing acting like one of my guinea keets. He said, well, looks like it's trying to crow. Um, yep, it was. Kept doing it for a few days and did turn out to be a cockerel. Since then, I've had two or three other cockerels crow in their first week of life. It's the cutest thing ever!

Five days?!?!?

Wow!

I thought my little critter was precocious. The last Marans cockerel I had didn't crow until at least five MONTHS. I guess you never know!
