So we have one runner duck in our flock of 13, and she has been in one of the houses, sitting on a nest for about six weeks. She is sat right up against the opening side so I haven’t been in as I’ve not wanted to disturb her. Some of our other ducks have been laying right at the back of the house so last week I decided I needed to clear that nest out and opened up the side. She (of course) ran out quacking but I did see that she was sitting on 14 eggs (and I cleared out 60 eggs from the other nest!).
Three days ago I noticed one egg had been pushed out of the nest - it had started hatching but failed and the duckling has died inside. I thought that this would mean that the other eggs would be hatching but as of yesterday there is still not sign of ducklings.
I do know that she was sitting long before the nest was full as you to the point she started, we had been collecting eggs every day.
I’m not sure what’s going on and why the other eggs haven’t hatched. I’m tempted to try to move her today and candle them but if there’re about to hatch I don’t want to disturb.
Any thoughts about how much longer I should leave her?
