I know this comes up a lot, but I have a garden style coop, where the hen house is above the run
there is a ladder for the girls to get up. My run is 6 x 10. The hen house is about 6 x 3. How many
standard size hens would fit comfortably here. I was thinking 7 or 8.
Thanks

The recommended size is 4 sq ft per LF chicken. So, 6x3 henhouse is 18 sq ft, divided by 4 equals 4, maybe 5 chickens. Run recommendations are 10 sq ft per LF chicken, so 6 x 10 is 60, and more chickens could be comfy in your run than in your henhouse, up to 6 of 'em.

4 is a good start. You may be able to add a 5th but I would wait till you have been through a winter with chickens.

Thanks. Right now I have 5 in there they seem to have no problems. The plans that I used
said 6, and the coop was built larger than the original plans. I do intend to extend the run this spring.
