Ok, lets see if I can explain myself well... sometimes my thoughts in my head do not come out verbally they way I want them too. lol

In making plans for permanent coop...
I am thinking of inside building, being 11x12.6 which is 138.6 sq ft.

Then I want to build a connected fenced in area totaling 420 sq ft.

Is that enough room for 25 or so hens? and 2 or 3 roo's?

And if I let them free range and roam... does the night time inside locked up coop size matter that much?

Thanks for input
Stacey

The guideline is 4 square feet per chicken in the coop, 10 square feet per chicken in the run. Chickens don't have tape measures. Overcrowding can result in problems such as: fighting, feather plucking, that sort of thing.

The space in the coop is probably less important than the space in the run, if they spend most of their time in the run.

yes that is enough space for 25 hens and 2-3 roosters...that would be a little over 4 sq. ft. per chicken in the coop which is enough...and 15 sq. ft. per chicken in the run which is a great amount!
