Hi just a question regarding my coop! New to keeping chickens and we have got 2 12 week old buff sussex. Can anyone tell me if this coop would be ok to have another 2 chickens? They are only in at nights time to sleep and pretty much free range.

In general you need about 3-4 sq ft per bed of space in a chic house. For two birds you should have an 8 sq ft chick house and for four birds 12 sq ft. ideally. Figure top end for growth. They should also have covered run space which should be minimum 5 sq ft to 10 sq ft of space additionally. So for 8 sq ft need 2x4 ft house or 3ftx3ft and for 12 sq ft house need 3x4 ft house. Even if free range. Hope this helps!

Thanks that's great

Not a problem. The Buff Sussex is a beautiful breed. I'm jealous. What other breeds were you thinking about?

Yeah they are I'm so in love with them. It was a lovely man selling all sorts of chickens offered us these as it was our first time keeping chickens. Says they can be hard to come by. I also love the silkie bantam (think that's the name)

I would actually recommend getting the extra two, if you think you have enough space.
Often times I see threads where people have two chickens and then one dies. Leaving one lonely chicken, which is quite sad. Adding just one new bird would also be harder than adding two.

Thanks that's good advice my 2 are so close as well so would be sad if one was left!

Welcome to BYC!
Even if you free range, that is awfully small, maybe even for 2 birds.
I'm going to guess it's about 18" x 18" x 48".
