Size of oyster shells

Dear Hubbie insists on crushing already crushed oyster shells that we buy from the local agricultural shop, he says they are too big, I think there's no need, anyone else concerned about the size of them, they are hard so he may be right

What size are they? Chickens can swallow mice no problem so unless these are whole oyster shells, he's wasting his time.

Thanks, they are roughly 10mm, or if you are in USA, just under half an inch
