We have a new chick. We already have 8 chickens and 1 rooster. We were thinking of getting two 1day old ducklings (Rouens) to keep her company. I have been reading all your posts on pros and cons. I can handle all the extra work but I am now concerned how big the ducks are going to get compared to the chick. Will the ducks trample the chick when they get to big?
Please advise ASAP. We are to pick up ducklings tomorrow.

Did you find suggestions on water management? My concern would be the ducklings turning the brooder into swampland, chilling the chick. But I am sure someone on here has raised them together. I kept mine separate.

We use a duckling drinker when raising chicks and ducklings together. It works for both. No swamp issues whatsoever. When the ducklings get bigger they need a water pan, of course. When they are little they do fine with the drinker, though.
