hi all, i can't thank you enough for all that i've learned by perusing this site! my kids 6 golden comet pullets are almost fully feathered so i need to get to work building a coop. i originally was going to build a 4x6 x 4 high. got to thinking and it would be a bit less cutting and probably a bit more comfy for the hens if i just kept it at a full sheet of plywood for the length. i wasn't planning on insulating this coop at all and having 1x3 foot vents at the top of both of the long sides farthest away from the nesting boxes and roost at the other end(boxes are external on the 4x4 end). orientation on the coop will be due south perpendicular to and against the house. the run will be 8x7. i have decided weather to raise the coop up or just make it sit 4" off the ground and have the entire top removable for cleaning. just kinda throwing my thoughts out there for more experianced people to evaluate. oh yeah i live on the coast of southern maine

thanks Ty

I would have the coop 18-24 inches off the ground. This will increase your run size and give your chickens a nice dry, cool, dust bathing and snow free area.
