We have a 5 week old chick and she has an injury or wound on her neck that showed up two days ago. She’s in a pen, in our basement, lined with pine bedding with another chick same age that appears to be fine. This chick is eating, perching, drinking, acting fine otherwise. We don’t know if it’s something she did, something she’s picking at, parasites, fungus or what. We don’t know if the other chick is picking at this one or if this one is scratching or picking at herself. I’m not sure if this is mite related or if she jumped in with the ducks and got bit and then jumped back in her pen. Right now she is separated from the other chick and the ducks have been moved outside.
Question is what could this be and what can I safely put on it? Is it contagious? Can I wrap it? Is she too young for antibiotics or diatomaceous earth?
Thank you!
