i have a Blue Whiting and she is 1 year old. She has recently become very skinny. I see her eating occasionally and drinking water. I think she became unhappy when she was not allowed to free range in the garden although she does have a very large run and I give her greens and stuff to peck at. Would it be best to let her back in the garden or quarantine her from the other birds for a few days? I have 4 chickens in total and Mary ( the Blue Whitining) is the lowest in pecking order. She is still social. Her comb is still nice looking. She is just too skinny!

Have you weighed her?
Why do you think she's "skinny"?
What are you feeding her?
Is she laying?
How's her poo?

It could be worms which could be verified with a fecal sample.
It could be too much "greens & stuff" .... I learned too much treat voids the nutritional value of their feed. I was giving my girls lettuce, fruits, veggies & scratch for treats .... They looked healthy & happy but felt underweight. I read & learned just cause it's veggies & fruit, doesn't make it healthy :( I weighed them (only have 4 BO) weekly, stopped all the veggie/fruits, they got their fermented Flock Raiser & a handful of scratch at close up. They started gaining weight, so that maybe part of your problem.

Well, if she is lowest in the pecking order, maybe the others chase her away from the food and she is too nervous and scared to eat. That is what happens to my lowest in my flock, she is partially blind, so it takes her many tries to get a piece of food and she weighs much less than the others. I always have to make sure she gets some treats on the side where the others can’t see.
