Tending to my chickens
Today I added a 4-5 month old rooster to my flock of 12 hens and 3 ducks. The rooster didn't hurt any of them, just he's really skittish. He is the size of my girls, but runs away when they come near him. Will he eventually realize that he's the alpha, in time?

It seems that some time needs to pass so that he gets settled into the flock. He is a tad young as well at 5 months. I imagine he will assume his role more once he matures. I would suspect rooster behavior is based more on being a rooster than it is on size.

The lady I got him from said he was 16 weeks old, but when we saw him, he looked more like 5 months old. She said he was as big as his 'momma' at 6 weeks! That would explain why he's so big!

In any case, dont worry. He will need to mature and get to know the girls. He is a new comer thrown in with some older birds and it is their house. He will settle in, it takes alittle while.
