Hello I was thinking of putting a skylight on top of coop for day light.I was thinking of using a flat piece of plexiglass or buying $40 sky light from lowes. What is your thoughts? Thanks

I have a sky light in the smaller part of the coop. the only down fall ive had is in the winter I have to cover it with some kind of insulator because the cold drafts in. I live in north Dakota where -40s are common so if youre in a warmer state it should be ok to do!

If you just want more light to see inside, you might try this soda bottle skylight. http://hackaday.com/2011/03/08/soda-bottle-skylights/
I put one in the sidewall of my coop. I was surprised at how much light it provided and how much easier it was to see inside the coop. Mine is installed beneath the eave of the coop, so water intrusion is not a problem.

Looks great but after while the plastic would cracked and leak. I think I like the plexiglass instead. Thanks for sharing.:)

That is a great idea. :)

Here is a photograph of my soda bottle skylight adapted from the article that I posted reporting its implementation. It is on the Northeast face of the coop. It appears to be cloudy inside the bottle because it is still frozen.
