Hi there I am a new BYC person and I am so excited!! I have been on the site sifting through all the info and am glad that there is a place like this for the starter-uppers out there.
I am picking up 2 RIR pullets and in June am getting 6 ISA Browns. I have heard that the ISA Browns are great layers for the 1st year and then are not the greatest after that. Is there a better breed for longer term laying then the ISA Browns or should I just "cull" my 6 when they wind down and start fresh again?? Any information I can get would be great. I am not stuck on a certain breed but, would like to have good egg production for my family. Not really hot on the idea of having to cull every year. What would you suggest for a different breed??
