I was wondering if anyone has come across any science regarding chicks releasing a hormone or enzyme while they sleep to subdue the mother?

We rescued a pheasant chick from day one and hand reared her in our house (typical newbies!)
One of the curious things we noticed was that whenever she slept on our laps (under our hands, which she chose), we would begin to fall asleep ourselves. It was as if she were casting a magic spell on us to fall asleep.

Which got me to thinking – do they release a chemical that induces drowsiness. It would make sense if the purpose was to encourage the mother to sit still and keep them warm and protected.

I have turned to my trusty Google, but have come up with nothing.

I’d really love to know if I am on track or just fantasising.
If you do have any literature on this, I’d love to know so that I can educate myself.
