Is she just being a weirdo or should I be concerned?

She seemed to be sleeping for about 5 minutes then I noticed the eye facing the room was open. She's a 6 week old Prairie Bluebell.

I sometimes catch my runner ducks sleeping with one eye open.

But, in their case, it's probably a defensive measure since they have spent their entire lives convinced that I'm trying to kill them every time I touch them.

BTW, she's a pretty girl.

Phew. I'm glad it's probably just a normal defensive thing.

She really is beautiful! 💕 I love her little hawk coloring. (It seems silly to get so happy about compliments to my chicken. 😂)

Silly? I think it's sweet! You are a good chick parent!

I also have a Prairie Bluebell, but my girl is mostly white with some caramel-colored feathers on her chest. You just never know what their plumage will turn out to be!

I thought she was supposed to be an all black chicken so the detailed brown feathers surprised me

She's very well camouflaged in our yard. I keep thinking she's escaped and she's standing there in plain sight watching me. 😂
