I've had a few guinea fowl eggs underneath a Silkie chicken for a few weeks now. It's approaching day 28-29 or so of them being brooded, and she's still sitting on them. However, she seems to nudge them to the edges of her feathers every so often, so they're not as hot as they could be. Normally I'd remove these eggs and discard them as non-viable, but candling reveals that there's definitely something moving inside them.
Has anyone else had unusually delayed hatching times for guinea fowl? Is there any advice to be taken about them? They haven't pipped yet, and candling shows fairly large air sacks inside each egg. I'm used to chicken eggs more or less filling up by the time they're ready to hatch. Are they just developing slowly, or is something wrong?
When it hits 30 days, I'm going to gently crack one open to see what's going on, unless somebody has a good explanation. Thanks in advance.
