I kept thinking that all three of our SLW were boys, but we have one that we called Batman because I was sure it was a boy. I don't know why, but it just seemed like a boy to me and it looked like it had a mask on... so Batman. I am not so sure now that Batman is actually a boy. What do you think?

Here is Batman - Smallest of the three, comb isn't red..

This is Thor - He is the biggest of the bunch and is constantly bumping the other guys. His comb is bright red. He was not happy about having his picture taken.

This is Loki - He is a mean little booger. Does not like to be picked up, has a single comb?? Big and red, no doubt he is a boy. Here he is catching some rays

I have five SLWs that I need someone to help sex, too. I will say that the SLWs will trick you because they all seem to get pinkish combs so early, even the ladies. As a guess, since I already have three 2 year old hens, I'd say #1 is a girl and the other two are boys. Sometimes, in SLWs, they throw a random single combed chick and it's totally normal. It's a rare and recessive gene. Check out this page for an explanation:

Good luck, I adore the Wyandottes as a breed. So friendly, super layers and love to be held and petted <3

I agree. Batman looks like a Batgirl to me. The other two look like they might be roos but the second one might fool you. It could be a girl too. I have a few hatchery SLW's with single combs too.

Thanks for the info on the single comb. I did get these from a breeder, but I am thinking that they are not far from hatchery stock. I wanted to go with someone local so the chicks did not have to be shipped but unfortunately I just couldn't find the quality breeders I was looking for. Lesson learned there, next time I will go for shipped... or it will be an excuse for a nice long trip to somewhere new.

I am very happy that Batman is possibly a girl. She has always been one of the sweetest chicks, and being the smallest of the crew didn't bother her at all. She would dive bomb everybody to get what she wanted. My mother came over to see them when I first got them and she said "Oh, you'll have to watch and make sure that the little one gets enough food because it is so much smaller" I told her that the little one was the one that knocked everybody else out of the way when it was time for dinner!

Thanks so much for the replies! It has been so great to have this wonderful resource where I can learn so much so fast. You guys are great.
