Seeking some help. I purchased a small incubator for my four year old to hatch some chickens so this was our first time. I have three eggs in the incubator which have just been candled and I noticed the air sac is very small on day 17 which means my humidity was too high. I know it’s too late now, but to help the hatch process, should I place the egg upright (air sac facing up) in the incubator to hopefully not have the chicks drown during the hatch period. I’m very disappointed that this happened. Any feedback would be great. Thank you

They do seem to zip a little quicker when hatched upright, it might help, but insufficient weight loss often delays a hatch, so that extra day might be enough to help. I use egg weight loss to monitor humidity, but on day 17 there is very little you can do but wait and see! I guess my experience with high humidity hatches doesn't really include drowning as such, simply chicks too big and too sticky to be able to zip.
