Small brooder bedding?

Any one know anything about using Timothy Hay as bedding for chicks? I was just wondering if it was poisonous or not. Hopefully not!

For the first few days, Paper towels are best or lately I have been using old towels and washing them to use over again. I don't know anyone who uses hay as bedding. I used straw the first time but shavings work best. I don't think hay would be the best thing for them to eat at an early age but I doubt it would kill them. They do start to peck at anything the looks ediable at a few days old. I would spend the $ 5.00 for a bundle of shavings if it were me.
