This is not for me but for a friend. he asked me If his mixed flock (with his 2 roosters) would peacefully. Both were raised together this spring and recently both have gotten more hormonal. 1 cockerel is a jersey giant and the other cockeral is a wyandotte. Both are roughly the same size and share 14 hens the same age. Could they coexist?

I posted this earlier but got no replies. so I'm trying a new thread.. any way thanks

The recommended ratio of roosters to hens is 1 rooster for every 10 hens as too many roosters can become very hard physically on the hens; over-breeding them, biting and plucking the feathers from their necks and backs, and potentially, seriously injuring them. The only reason your friend really needs a rooster is to fertilize eggs for hatching, and 1 rooster can easily handle 10-15 hens in that regard, so personally I would re-home one of the roosters. However, having said that, both of these breeds generally have pretty docile roosters (particularly the Jersey Giant), and with 7 hens apiece they might not do too much damage to his hens.
