HI! This is such a great resource, I'm happy to become part of the community.

We have 4 laying hens and three new baby chicks. I'm attempting to get a broody hen to raise the babies, but it might me a long shot. See my post Reluctant Broody Mom??

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Good luck with slipping chicks under a broody hen! Many times if you slip them under her in the dark, she thinks that next morning they hatched them herself. I hope she excepts them!!

Welcome to our flock and enjoy this site!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with the chicks. It does sound like the timing was not right, especially for a first time broody... hens that have raised chicks before are often more willing to take older chicks or chicks on an abnormal schedule.

You really have to keep an eye on her , sometimes a broody will accept chicks at first. The next day some may be dead or deserted. Hope it works out for you. Raise up a silkie or two to have for future brooders.
