I have four hens and a hen house that has about 33” space on inside from bottom to top of roof. wondering if it would be okay to use a reptile heat lamp, 150W instead of standard 250W, attached securely to top for days that are in single digits. Seems like standard heat lamp would be way too hot for this small space. Or, would reptile heat lamp be too hot? I have straw packed around bottom and am using deep layer method so perhaps they are fine with no heat even below zero? Thanks.

Best not to use heat lamps in any coop, especially a tiny one.
You may need to do some creative building to keep 4 birds in that tiny coop.
Do you also have a run?
A big run with a solid roof and wind blocking on the walls would be good to protect the coop.
Pics of that would be most helpful.

Oh, and..... Welcome To BYC! @Harpersm
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.

It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

Welcome to BYC!!

I have a heat lamp ready to go but it only comes on for those weeks that we are -30F, and even with that temperature my heat lamp isn't on all day, it is only on for an hour or two just at sunrise and one to two hours at sunset.
Protection from the wind is better than a heat lamp and making sure their water doesn't freeze.

Thank you for your comments. I attached photos to my account showing we have an 18 x 18 secure coop and the hen house is inside with straw around to protect from wind.

Ah, found this in your intro thread.....
..NICE run!
Get some plastic up on most the mesh and they will be nicely protected from the weather.
Coop might need some work tho...added ventilation
