We found out today that our black Australorp, Viola, is actually a Vinnie. And we can't have Roos in the city. We also have a Maran that we are worried has failure to thrive. She's our little runt. ❤️🐥❤️

Does anyone know of a breeder that will ship just 2 chicks? We've been lucky to get most of our chicks at a locally-owned farm store, but I don't think they are getting any more. TIA!

I don't know about breeders, but I know that some hatcheries set their minimums fairly low.

For day-old baby chicks:
Cackle Hatchery will ship as few as three.
McMurray Hatchery will ship as few as six.
Ideal Poultry has a minimum order of $30, no matter how few chicks that may be.

I thought McMurray would ship small numbers of "started" chicks (4-6 weeks old), but I cannot find that on their site right now, so they may have quit.

There are probably other hatcheries with low minimums, but those are the ones I know off the top of my head.

Mt. Healthy has a 3 chick minimum and is where I bought my current batch of chickens. I have been impressed at the health of the chicks shipped to me. Their customer service has been great, as well, and called and emailed me along the way to make sure all went well.
