Thanks everyone. I ended up going with McMurray since they were closer and had the breed options I was looking for. Hopefully less risk to chicks to travel a shorter distance .

Better chances, anyway! Good luck with your order. Feel free to share pictures when they get here.Hopefully less risk to chicks to travel a shorter distance .
Why do they include extras?Check out Mt. Healthy. I think you can order as few as 3 chicks, and mix-and-match. They're in Cincinnati, OH.
One caveat: They do have a "small order fee" of $30. I don't know if that applies to orders of 6, but I'd guess it does.
I ordered from them last year because they had the breed I wanted, and I could order 3 chicks. I ordered 4, got 5, and had a great experience. I would definitely order from them again.
In case one doesn't make it, I guess. Why do they include extras?
Extras are usually in case one chick dies on the way.Why do they include extras?
It seems that for a small flock owner, or for someone like me who is planning to start, it could create difficulty?
For instance, there would be less SF/chick in my brooder.
So much to worry about.![]()

It's going to be heartbreaking, isn't it.In case one doesn't make it, I guess.
I ordered 4 from Mt Healthy, got 5. All were fine. It's going to be heartbreaking, isn't it.
You can order 6 chicks from Murray McMurray hatchery and mix & match! Are there any reputable hatcheries that will ship 6 chicks and allow you to pick more than a single breed (often seems to be a 5 chicks per breed limit)? Also with reasonable small order fees? Can't have more due to city limit.I don't want to risk being reported by neighbors or having chickens taken away.
(I'm leery of TSC after all I've heard about it)
