Compatriots,

I have 5 ducks and 1 Drake. The drake is fairly aggressive during mating and has the feathers on the back of the head and necks of the ducks completely plucked off.

They all have some fairly large bare spots on the back of the neck. Is there anything I can do with the drake to keep him from plucking off all the feathers?

thanks

Provide him more girls, but sometimes that doesn't even help. When the molt the feathers will return. If you aren't hatching eggs you can always rehome him since you don't need him for the girls to give you eggs.

There is nothing you can do but separate them. What you are seeing is normal duck behavior. Your drake already has 5 girlfriends. I don't think that adding more ducks is going to make much difference.

My drakes have lovely temperaments and by the end of breeding season, my ducks look really ragged. Not only their necks and heads, but their tail feathers, too. That's just what happens with ducks.
