What breeds run 5 pounds? A small size regular chicken. Prefer docile, pleasant breeds.
I have searched multiple websites and they all say different things.

speckled sussex, production reds, leghorns (all types), barred rocks, dominckers, rhode island whites are a few I've dealt with but everyone says my chickens are just small, lol hope this helps

P.S these are all really good layers

Check out this chart. Realize that there are trade off's. When you set one criteria for size, you may give up an other criteria for large eggs, high production, or calm nature! There is no perfect chicken. (though the Dominique comes close for my criteria!) But, thankfully, there are lots and lots of breeds to choose from.

I've been doing this for a little while now and I still don't have a good answer. I just keep experimenting. Limiting myself to endangered breeds doesn't help.:caf

I have a Red Production and I would like to have another breed about that size, 4-5 pounds. I have Bantam chicks, but want a few more smaller sized laying hens and wondering what to look for. All the charts and info I have read conflicts each other. My hen is a good size without being too big and I would like to have a mix of hens that same size.
