I have a 5X8' coop with a sand base. It is starting to smell. What can I do to keep the smell down?

Does it have a roof covering it,i clean mine with a cat litter scoop, add a little DE,if in the coop clean with the cat litter scoop and add sweet pdz should help.

Yeah, I had the same problem with sand and I only had it under the roosts. Removed it and replaced with deep litter. No more odor problems since then.

Clean it, keep it dry, and add some Sweet PDZ. We have a 4x6 with 5 hens and ZERO odor (cleaned weekly). Our entire coop base is sweet pdz.

We have 6 chicks in a 8' x 9' coop. The floor is wood shavings, the poop board under the roost is filled with PDZ that I sift daily with a cat litter scooper. They have been in there exclusively for almost 3 weeks since the run isn't finished. Even though we've had some pretty warm weather, there is no odor.

As soon as I can put them in the run I want to add another bag of woods shaving along with a bag of PDZ on the floor.

I thinking of using sand in the run. Even thought it will be covered, when the grass is gone I'm afraid it will become a muddy, smelly mess. I'm hoping the sand mixed with PDZ will work. Maybe add straw, grass clipping or leaves as well.

I guess I misstated it. The coop is ok, I use PDZ in there, it is the outside run that smells.
