Snake identification and removal

We lost some pullets to a rattlesnake two years ago. They won't eat them, but they will sure strike them if they feel cornered and threatened.

I never did get an answer to my question. Anyone?
Saw a tail today on the other side of the coop. :| It was attached, and leaving the area.
Does it take awhile for all the potions to work? I'm using mothballs, sulfur powder, and brown tick pesticide.
What areas do these types of snakes look for to nest in?
I have identified ours as cottonmouths.

Some folks swear by moth balls, snake away, etc. All scientific research indicates that those "repellants" don't work.
