I was so excited when one of my Muscovy hens layed and was sitting on 4 or 5 eggs. The eggs are gone so i figure snakes are getting them. What can I do? Hot wire? Someone said sulfur, but every time it rains it would need to be applied again.
Will she start laying again? PLease help with the egg eating snakes

I would put plastic eggs where the duck eggs where and when the snake comes back he will eat them and that will be the last thing he eats! The last time I had a snake in the coop he had eaten three of the plastic eggs and was not feeling so good. I think that is why I was able to kill him so easily. Here is a picture of the snake. You can easily see the plastic eggs!

I bet your duck will start laying again. I know my pekin and buff ducks lay every day.

There is also a snake away propellent that you can sprinkle on the ground. I think we purchased it at TSC but I am not positive. It is all natural and has cinnamon and other spices in it. I am not 100% sure it works as I have not used it that much but I don't think it will hurt anything to try. Also mothballs work well for snake repellant. I don't know if the ducks will eat these or not though.

Thanks for replying!!
Can you get Easter Plastic eggs even though the colors would be off? Not sure where you would get white plastic eggs. I know I can get ceramic eggs at the co op. They are so real I gathered one up and it wound up in a egg carton I gave a friend and they tried to crack it and it just went boink!!
Snake away spread around the out side of the coop might be of some use too. I will look for it and maybe it will not be too expensive.
