A few weeks or so back we got three polish chicks, of the three one was a runt. I had been thinking that the runt chick was not going to make it, that one day I was going to walk out to the chick pen and it would be dead on the floor of its enclosure. But as the weeks have past all three were eating and drinking with no problem and two of the chicks were growing a lot... the runt not growing to much, but it was still alive. This morning when I checked the coop one of the larger polish chicks had been attacked by what I think was a snake. The top half of the chick from its head to the shoulders was slimy and all of it's feathers were standing up as if it was too big for the snake to eat so the snake had to regurgitate it. The two remaining chicks were moved to a more secure area. I feel such a loss over this polish chick. I feel a little silly that I was so upset over this. I wish I would have gotten more than just three at the chicken swap in Sharpsburg, and I still can't believe that one of the chicks is gone. Oh well, live and learn.
