Snakes

Maybe this is a stupid question but do snakes eat baby chicks? We had a snake outside our garage yesterday. My brooder is in the garage. Sometimes we leave garage door open. My chicks are coming next week so I would like to know if I should be vigilant.

Yes indeedy weedy sweety. Snakes eat chicks and snakes eat eggs. Of course it takes the right kinda snake.

And don't forget to look under your bed tonight. Just had to put that out there. Hope your not terrified of snakes.

^^Ok, that was ridiculous.

For some serious advice, snakes large enough to eat chicks/eggs will eat them, but predation of poultry by snakes is MINOR compared to predation/attacks by mammals. I personally wouldn't be too worried about it, unless you are brooding in an open wire cage set on the floor.

No I'm not afraid of snakes. But having said that I don't want one in the garage either. My brooder is on the floor. It's a kiddie pool with chicken wire around it. Yipes.
