While I was out mowing today I realized that my ducks and chickens were just not acting right!! At first I shook it off thinking that forgot what the lawn mower was and continued on my way, then the Panic in the coop got louder and worse!! So I decided to see what the big deal was! And low and behold I had a snapping turtlethat some how (still dk how) that got into the coop and made a mess so I went in search of a garbage can to put him in and when I came back his was making his way into my ducks pond! Needless to say I am glad I went and checked on them befor he had one for dinner!! And silly me for thinking my main predator would be coon!

Gross! I hate them things! They're so ugly. Good thing you got him.
Last summer I had one half way through my field, about 200 yards from my pond. It took 3 shots to the head before it quit moving... My boyfriend asked me why I killed it, I told him that's too close for comfort! If it got in my pond I'd be out there all day waiting for it to surface. Then I'd have to get it out of there.

I was visiting my neighbor several years ago who had several ducks and geese free ranging about her property. We were sitting at the kitchen table having a coffee and chatting when we heard a goose squawking loudly outside. We got up and ran outside to see the goose hopping on 1 leg and a very large snapper close by. That snapper had bitten the goose's leg right off. If we hadn't come to the rescue I an sure the turtle would have killed the goose.I have a large snapper that crosses my yard quite often but it has not been a problem yet. By the way they are protected here in Michigan.

Im sure snappers would love there chickens more then ducks considering the turtle lines around here are baited with chicken and cow lung. I was just happy that all my friends had all there appendages!

Turtles can actually go pretty fast, and them snappers can reach their neck out half their body length. So if a chicken wasn't aware the turtle was going to cause harm, it'd be a goner.
