Man - it's been a tough couple of days on the farm....

I'm completely new to turkeys. My little TSC rescued poult (injured and lethargic BBW, about a week old - all healed and perky now) is sneezing occasionally. There's also intermittent clicking/crackling when it breathes but no discharge so far. Other than that, it's acting completely normal. On 30% gamebird starter in a nice, warm brooder. Normal appetite and activity level. Normal poop.

Anyone have any advice? I freaking love this bird.

Not particularly experienced, as I’ve only raised turkeys 4-ish times, but I had a few like that who just fixed themselves. Maybe look up some gentle supplements that can be put in the water? I did that for mine, just don’t remember what I used. Sounds like you’re doing everything right, so there shouldn’t be any major issues.

They are so easy to get attached to, but something to keep in mind is that a BBW will start having complications from its own weight as it grows, and so they don’t usually live long. :(

Good luck with the little guy, if it’s alert and active and noisy it’ll probably be fine. If the sneezing clears up/doesn’t amount to anything, you should get it some little Turkey friends. They are very social and they get less attached to you if there’s more than one. I wouldn’t recommend being one’s entire world, raised my first girl solo and realized she didn’t even speak Turkey xD

Good to know about the respiratory symptoms. It's doing great otherwise, so I'm hoping it will correct itself.

I've been corresponding with a local sanctuary that has BB turkeys, and they have suggested low-fat, low-protein maintenance feed after it reaches a certain weight as well as feed amounts and weekly weigh-ins. Their turkeys are several years old, so I will try my best. Can't hurt to try, I guess. 🤞
