Sneezing, rattling chickens - spreading to whole flock!

What is the vet testing for? The most common cause of this is MG, which is treatable and not curable. Your surviving birds become carriers.

If you want to medicate get TylanD50 for a feed store or Tractor supply. You can inject the birds or put it in their water.


I've seen posts like this where vets don't check for MG and it ends up costing a lot of money and dead chickens. Call the vet in the morning.

I hope it isn't Infectious Bronchitis, and you don't have the issues we did when we introduced new chickens without quarantining the birds. Keep on the lookout for a drop in egg production or wrinkled eggs in case it is. The girls have been on duramycin for 24 hours and I am pretty sure that they are sneezing less, but when they do their egg song they sound really croaky! Even the sickest sounding one laid an egg today, so I guess that is a good sign. I am really hoping they all pull through this! How long should I keep them on the duramycin? I have heard conficting withdrawal times for the duramycin, does anybody have any advice on when we will be able to eat their eggs again? Thanks so much!

Treat with Tylan 50 1/2cc daily for 5 - 7 days for adult standard very large you can go up to 3/4cc like 10+ pounds...you can look up more info on the Tylan inject or give orally.


Tylan is used to treat IBV too.


I just had two under vet care for pneumonia....long story but they got soaked on a cold evening...they became symptomatic sneezing and gargling/rattling sounds a few days later. By day 3 of the tylan, there was a marked improvement. They are on day 5 now.

I was told this is CRD and that is what this says it treats. If it isn't I guess we will have to see, I am not the only owner of these chickens and I think the others aren't interested in treating them at all, they are seen as livestock by the others- if they make it, great, if not we can get other chickens.
