We have a coop cam and lately I notice my ladies sleeping with their beaks slightly opened. Periodically they will pant or breathe sort-of heavy. DURING THE DAY THEY ARE COMPLETELY NORMAL! There is no sign of respiratory infection or respiratory issues during the day - their nostrils are clear, their combs are bright, no signs of trouble. I checked the in-coop thermometer last night and it registered 72. I have a gentle fan going and two windows completely opened plus a few vents so I don't think it could be ventilation but I have never noticed them breathing like this at night before. We have a squeaky clean coop - hemp bedding and poop boards which I clean daily, so there is no poop in there making ammonia. I just can't figure it out! Anyone else have this?
