I purchased a pair of snow mallard around July last year so they are over 6 months of age now. I was told they would hatch their own babies. Right now they are sleeping in my chicken coop with my 6 laying hens, in the corner on the ground. And free ranged during the day. I noticed there was an egg in their corner this morning and I think it's the mallards, but it's not in a nice little stay nest, it's just sitting there. Is there anything I should do? Do they need a nesting box? I'm afraid my chickens will see it laying there and get hungry
. Any other info would be super helpful! Right now it's April in iowa so the weather is pretty moody and chilly yet. We just had snow two days ago so I don't know if the eggs get to cold if they will stay fertile.
